You probably know the feeling by now. That you have reached the end of your rope and need to get out of the house, but you also don’t want to break the rules. Rules being a big deal as far as I’m concerned, although I have broken more of them in the last couple of years then in all the previous years of my life put together. But I digress.
So the perfect place to go seemed to be the Nature Coast Botanical Garden. Not too far up the road, and in the past there have never been more than a few people strolling among the flowers there. To go there was a no brainer. But the butterfly garden section wasn’t in bloom so no butterflies, and the water garden area didn’t seem to have any dragonflies that I could spot. I did see a nice fat bee at one point, but he hardly stayed put long enough for me to get him in focus. The trees were full of birds who were chirping away, but I couldn’t see them. It was disappointing to be out but not seeing what I’d hoped to see.
I was at the point of leaving when the tiniest of white daisy-like flowers caught my eye just on the other side of a picket fence. As I looked I saw a tiny insect land on one of the flowers and I zoomed in with my 400mm lens. I thought it was a fly and told myself I was nuts taking pictures of a fly, but through the lens I could see that it was a tiny little bee. It was sized perfectly for the tiny flower. And not only that, he stuck around long enough to let me get more than a few photos. He made my day. Not what I had set out to see, but I’m used to that happening. I went home and tucked myself back into quarantine. Tiny flower, tiny bee, tiny house. Not-so-tiny me needs to walk more and eat less…
