Hitting the road, continued…

Day two had us waking up to news of the flooding and storms in the Midwest, and I wasn’t so sure that we wouldn’t have to drive right through that weather. We did, but only for a short time and then we seemed to be skirting it as we continued. The weather on day three was great, and we reached our destination just in time to enjoy our first bowl of clam chowder in Plymouth, MA. Two tired people walked out of the restaurant and into some beautiful sunset color, and there we were without our cameras, but the best camera is the one you have with you and we are never without our iPhones. Looking at the photos in the iPad this morning and I was amazed. I hope they look as nice to you.

Boats and water, which we see all the time in Florida, but somehow it just screams New England.
I’ve forgotten if the ship is the Mayflower 2, but you see it’s masts breaking the horizon line.
Oh my, tired as we were I knew we had to enjoy this view for a little while.
I liked this little bridge.
Boats were returning to the launching area, but others were just being put into the water also.
Such pretty clouds.
And finally it was time to get some rest.

Hitting the road…

Day one, the good news and the bad news. The good news is that the air bags didn’t go off. So I could see as I held onto the steering wheel for dear life when the 18 wheeler in the lane next to mine ahead of me hit a huge piece of truck tire laying on his lane of Rt. 95 and sent it flying into us. It happened too quickly to panic, and I was in heavy traffic so swerving wasn’t an option. But things seemed okay so we didn’t try to pull over at that point, and then I tried not to think about what might have happened, but didn’t. Eventually we reached our day’s destination and this is what we found. I’m not happy, but I am so thankful that it wasn’t worse.

I’d like to think it’s not a big deal repair, but I guess we’ll see.

I must have seen the billboards with the legend about the live baby alligators before, but they stood out to me this trip. Possibly because I wasn’t driving at the moment. That could explain how it came to be that the only time I saw an alligator in my neighborhood was in Baltimore. Never in Florida.

Cheering myself up…

I’m attempting to cheer myself up with my photos today. I woke up in a down kind of mood, for no particular reason. So then I decided to get a haircut, and I got scalped! So I could go crawl in a hole for a couple of weeks while my hair grows, or look at my pictures of the cute little chicks I saw the other day. I hope they can do it for me…

I had been there for a little while without spotting egret chicks, which was my goal for the day. Then along came a gal who visits every day, and she kindly pointed them out to me. I think they are the ugly ducklings of the rookery, but they will grow into such beautiful birds.
They were secluded in the nest, but soon they will be big enough to poke their little heads up higher and yell to mom to feed them.
These wood stork chicks are a few days older I think, and their lung power is developing nicely. I think these guys are adorable, at least when they are little.
There is a certain lack of privacy in the rookery. I was looking at the egret and seeing bobbing heads. I sometimes think they look like they are babysitting their neighbor’s chicks.
This anhinga chick is singing along with mom, or maybe that’s dad.
Have no fear though, more egret chicks are coming…

Decisions…

Maybe it’s me. My current computer is the third computer of mine that has left me in the lurch when it comes to Lightroom. Since that is pretty much all I do on the computer it’s no small thing to me. So yesterday I took my 27 inch Mac back to the Apple store and it was ‘admitted’ for further evaluation. I don’t think of myself as a girly girl in the least, but seeing the table of new 24 inch desktops in so many pretty colors has me wondering exactly what I’m hoping as to the condition of the old computer. They are new, pretty, and have the M1 chip. Do I know what that is? No, but it sounds good. I don’t know what $$$ to fix it would be my cut off point, and if I opt for a new computer which color would I choose? Decisions, decisions…

Pretty skies…

What, you aren’t tempted to run out your front door in your pajamas to take a picture of a pretty sky? I’ve done it in more than a few places, and a few states even, and I did it again the other day. I may be the talk of the neighborhood…

And last night’s sunset sky looked promising until the very last minute.

Found this mural in a new lunch place I’ve visited a few times recently and finally took a picture.

And lastly I bought this little sign to remind myself to quit overthinking things and just have a little faith. Life is good.

Recalculating…

Life is funny. It operates in it’s own time, on it’s own schedule. Like this picture of One-Foot Fred that I came across this morning. It was taken at sunset and I never go to Aripeka at sunset, but obviously I did that day in 2018. Every now and then you wake up in the morning with your head on straight, or so you think, your ducks in a row, you think, and you are in charge of things and know which end is up. And by that evening your there has been a sea-change in your perspective. I’ve experienced this in it’s saddest form, and finding my way from there has been quite the process. But you muddle on and eventually you get yourself together, you know where you stand and how your life is going to be. And that’s when life might just decide to throw you a curve ball in the most unexpected and welcome of ways, and your heart warms to new possibilities. If this blog is among the missing while I savor this new reality then please be happy for me, I know I am.
